Not Quite Shore.....

this was a text i wrote after unfortunately missing one of the lectures I think I may have misunderstood what we were asked . this is what I wrote for the “wall plaque, newspaper article peace) I have included to anyways as to show that I had made an attempt to catch up if only slightly misguided…

BAS7 Review

The British art show founded in the 1979 and had displayed work from a huge range of artists over the years this year the show took place it four city’s across the UK Plymouth , Glasgow, London and Nottingham, I wasn’t to see the shows being held in Plymouth it was spread over five locations across the cite each of there own historical and academic importance. Over all I was disappointed with some of the peace’s of display for example the work of Karla black I found to be a little insulting as the show was create to show the big is up and coming British art and I feel that her work lacked skill and imagination and skill and feel her participations in the show could have been used to promote an artist with more imagination I also feel that the show could have been curated better in my opinion the best and more thought provoking peace in the show “the clock “ by Christian Marclay was places in the royal William yard probably the least accessible venue within the Plymouth show and further more was located right at the back hidden away from view and could have been easily missed in its selected location.

Writing The Object

“Words, words. They’re all we have to go on.”

Guildenstern in Tom Stoppard (1966), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

in this lecture we dissussed differant forms of writing and how they are presented in mined to there audiance.

we gean vy lookiong at ways in witch writing in displayed in differant forms for example , articales, leaflets, posters, book ,letter, emails, texts ect then we began to look at ways in witch writing is prodused to relation to there audiance for example an artical in a broud sheet newspaper would be writen more formaly comparid with a tabloid withc would unaly have alot more images and entertainment.

Christmas Project

After considering my already existing work loads I decided to produce a simple A3 sheet containing three key points (Christmas in Plymouth, Christmas at home and the run up to new year) covered in “Christmas” by this I mean all those little things that Christmas brings, choclate sea shells, wrapping paper, cracker hats, gift tags, hand made decorations etc. I intentionally kept my project simple so that it would be an enjoyable task undertake on the sofa wile recovering for Christmas dinner.

The Christmas holiday was a welcome and much needed rest not just physically but also mentally.

Eggs

We were introduced to the group and we all sat in a large circle around lots of eggs and objects such as podiums, mirrors, card, manicins, paper and string. ect
we then split into pairs and were asked to produce a peace of art that somehow included an egg in a curtain amount of time.
I worked with William Danby after a quick discussion we decided that we would work with mirrors and idea of reflection.
we positions four mirrors using rolled up tubes of card stuck with masking tape, they idea behind it was that the viewer would see the egg though a sires of reflection.

We also included a reference to Rene Magritte's "ceci n'est pas un e pipe" (this is not a pipe) as it is not a pip it is a painting of a pipe we used that same concept as the viewer is not looking at the egg itself but a reflection of a reflection of a reflection of an egg.

After producing our piece we then regrouped and had a look around the room at the variety of different outcomes each group had come up with after being presented with the same timeframe and materials, the outcome were very interesting indeed.

After a dissuasion about each piece we came to a conclusion that there was almost a "circle of life theme occurring the eggs themselves hold so much symbolism used for life, rebirth, potential, redemption, promise, hope etc. the first step the egg being considered not seen itself but thought reflection that could be entreated as the child being thought about and conceived, the next was a chicken manic that appeared to be “laying “ the egg symbolizing birth the next a manikin positions as if it were catching the egg this could symbolize adulterant play, then an egg surrounded by mirrors this could symbolize its own reflection learning and observing itself something we all must learn how to do in order to being mature well rounded adults, the next was an egg split in half at each end of a mirror with a mirrored background this could have possibly represented I split decision or two half’s coming together in order to create a new life the next was a manikin on a podium carful holding the egg this could symbolize motherhood or nurturing.

It was interesting to observe everyone else takes on the egg from one extreme to the other such as in the 3rd catching the egg the egg it primarily place apposed to the forth there the egg is being held and regarded with such care.

This exercise was both a fun we to introduce the project and also thought provoking in regards to all the different forms or curtain something as simple as an egg is so many different ways
